A legacy donation is one of the most meaningful gifts you can give. It is also one of the simplest and most flexible ways of supporting Cheltenham College, and allows you to support the school in a way in which you may not be able to during your lifetime.
Legacy bequests are a very tax-efficient way of donating as they are free from Inheritance Tax, and gifts of shares and property are exempt from Capital Gains Tax. Furthermore, Inheritance Tax will be applied at a reduced rate of 36% (instead of 40%) on some assets, if 10% or more of the net value of your estate is left to a registered charity such as the Cheltenham College Charitable Trust.
Gifts may be directed towards specific areas of College life, or left without restrictions for allocation wherever the need is greatest.
All those who have made provision for College in their will are invited to become members of The Hugh Reeves Society.
Set up in 2002, the Society is an opportunity to thank and celebrate in their lifetime all those who have pledged a legacy gift. Society members will be kept up to date with our news and future plans and are invited to College's Speech Day each year.
How to leave a legacy and join the Hugh Reeves Society
To include Cheltenham College in your will, please consult your solicitor. If you wish to amend an existing will, you can add a Codicil.
Please note that the beneficiary of a bequest in your will should be: Cheltenham College Charitable Trust, registered charity no. 1006429.
If you wish to inform College of your intention to leave legacy and become a member of The Hugh Reeves Society, please download and complete the legacy pledge form via the button below. Legacies of all sizes can make a difference and it is not a requirement to tell us how much you have pledged.

"Gifts left by Old Cheltonians and other members of the College community have always made a very important contribution to the well-being of Cheltenham College and my own time spent there was, without doubt, greatly enhanced by many generous benefactors who had gone before. I urge all Old Cheltonians who have not yet done so, to include Cheltenham College in their will, as many of us have already been delighted to do."

Who was Hugh Reeves?
Hugh Reeves was one of the greatest benefactors College has ever had. A solicitor by profession, he was a member of College Council from 1929 until his death in 1952 and President of the Cheltonian Society from 1923-24. Hugh bequeathed 15 acres of land in Charlton Park to College in 1923 for playing fields and the site the Boat House in Tewkesbury currently stands on.
