Help grow the Bursary Endowment Funds to offer fully-funded places in perpetuity.
The President and Council of Cheltenham College are committed to widening access to Cheltenham College by offering financial support with the payment of school fees. Such support may be a discount on tuition fees depending on financial, compassionate or other pertinent circumstances of applicants, or a fully-funded place.
Fully-funded places are only possible thanks to our generous donors.
Donations are invested in one of our two Bursary Endowment Funds, established in memory of Edward Wilson and Guy Dodd. The proceeds of these endowed funds will enable us to finance fully-funded bursary places at Cheltenham College in perpetuity.
The Edward Wilson Endowment Fund has been established in memory of Edward Wilson, one of College's best known OCs whose story continues to inspire pupils and staff at College today.
The courage Wilson, Captain Scott and their team showed during their fatal return journey from the South Pole in 1912 established them as classic heroes. Wilson was a pioneer of what we know today as Extreme Sports Medicine, his studies of mammals and birds were groundbreaking, he was one of the last Royal Naval expedition artists, and his devout Christian faith guided his actions and inspired others.
To honour this legacy, our ambition is to create a bursary endowment fund with a target of £1 million, which would generate sufficient income for a fully-funded bursary place at Cheltenham College every year, in perpetuity.
We are grateful to Dr David Wilson, great nephew of Edward Wilson, for helping us to launch this fund. Read more about Edward Wilson's incredible legacy at www.edwardwilson.com
In memory of Guy Dodd
(H, 1959, College staff 1966-82, Leconfield Housemaster 1977-1982, College Council 1999-2005)
The Guy Dodd Bursary Endowment Fund has been established in memory of Guy, described in his Cheltonian obituary as, 'quite simply a wonderful man. We are all forever in his debt and will never forget him.'
The income from this endowment fund will be used to fully fund bursary places for boys or girls, who have the potential to make the most of the all-round education at College, as well as to uphold the values that underpinned Guy's life and work.
This fund has benefitted from match funding of £500,000, thanks to the wonderful generosity of one former member of Leconfield.
