Cheltonian Golf Day – April 25th 2026 - written by Robert Macleod-Smith (Cheltondale, 1965)

"A record field of 56 OCs, College pupils, parents and College staff enjoyed a highly successful golf day at Cleeve Hill GC. The weather was perfect giving rise to spectacular views to the Malvern Hills and beyond.

There was also some remarkable golf. OCs played for the Michael-Andrews Jones tankard and the winner was Andrew Thomson with an excellent score of 42 stableford points. Behind him and tied on 41 points were Henry Keeling and Adam Fisher who went round in 66 (5 under par) and 67 (4 under par) respectively.

This is golf of the very highest order and the best we have ever seen at this event.

Ten College pupils played for the Prospect Cup and the winner was Ben Wills on 36 points followed by Harry Vickary on 35 points and Doug McMurty on 33 points.

There were separate competitions for those without official handicaps and the winner for OCs, parents and staff was Ollie Snell with 43 points and for the pupils Freddie Ashbridge with 40 points. Lolita Brown won the Ladies prize with 32 points.   

The Cheltonian Golf Day is a unique occasion for OCs, pupils, parents and staff to meet together and enjoy friendly competition. It is an opportunity for pupils to be introduced to OC golf and it is encouraging that there are presently more keen golfers than ever at College.

The Old Cheltonian Golfing Society celebrates its centenary in 2027 and a special Cheltonian Golf Day is already planned for May 8th 2027."
