Hugh Langrishe, brother of the late Philip JD Langrishe (Xt, 1935), cousin of the late RB Langrishe (checking date with Archivist), and cousin once removed of Nicholas Langrishe (Xt, 1960) and Richard D Langrishe (Xt, 1959), died on 25 November 2025, aged 102.
The College photo above shows Hugh winning the under-16 hurdles in 1939. The following obituary has been provided by Hugh’s children, Jack and Jane.
Hugh died just short of his 103rd birthday in a nursing home in Leominster, Herefordshire having only moved there from his own home in Bromyard six days earlier. He was pre-deceased by his wife Pamela who died in 2023.
Hugh was born in Bermuda. His father (Royal Army Medical Corps) was posted to Catterick in 1925, with the family moving to Edinburgh in 1928. Hugh attended Aysgarth School, Yorkshire before following his cousin RB Langrishe and brother PJD Langrishe to Cheltenham College. He was proud of his school although he left two terms early. He had passed his School Certificate and the school had been evacuated to Shrewsbury. Hugh was billeted at the home of a local solicitor and, although enjoyable with school meals being supplemented by large breakfasts and an additional high tea in the evening, there was nothing to achieve by staying on.
