Centre for Innovation, Economics and Business
The CIEB will sit at the heart of the College campus, adjoining the Science Centre and close to the Modern Foreign Languages, Music and Art departments. Traditionally the Arts and Sciences have been viewed as rather separate fields of study. The CIEB will provide a link between all these subject areas enabling cross-curricular collaboration.
STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics) subjects are recognised as helping to develop 21st Century workplace skills such as teamwork, problem-solving and critical thinking. STEAM (STEM + Arts) education integrates the two fields to create a multi-disciplinary approach to technology development, robotics, engineering and more. By incorporating creative thinking and design, STEAM education helps to fuel innovation and entrepreneurship.
The CIEB will be at the heart of College's evolving curriculum in the years ahead, as well as helping to drive the continual pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning.
Economics and Business are popular and expanding subjects at Cheltenham College and this growth is reflective of a trend towards A level subjects that have significant value in the employment market. Our current spaces for teaching these subjects are in the Wilson Building, where the classrooms are too small, not in the right location and are not adaptable for current teaching methods.
CIEB includes within the design an innovation classroom with an observation suite. This will support the ambition of our teachers to be world class in what they do through collaboration, innovation and use of technology. Our pupils (and their parents) expect to receive exceptional teaching, and our professionals need to continue challenging themselves to develop, for which this space will be ideal.
Plans include a large communal area 11, seven classrooms 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, a staff resource room 9, and an observation room 10.
With your help, CIEB is set to open in September 2024
